Video: City Commission Meeting 3-9-09

Forgive me for this grainy video, but I was unable to make it to the Commissioner's meeting and was forced to use the video from Channel 81. I ended up 'liveblogging' the first recording on Channel 81 which was actually pretty interesting. I thought of doing it at the last minute and went from googling "live blogging" to embedding the code on this site in about 2 minutes flat. Liveblogging is that easy. Only 4 other people logged on, but it was after 10:00 so I wasn't expecting much.

I think if we advertise this type of event the community would engage. You can scroll through the chat if you like - it should stay right there below this post. If you want to get involved in the Democratic process, there ya go. The guy who stayed on with me for awhile made some good suggestions about setting up events like this to talk about topics facing the city - and I mentioned possibly getting the commissioner's involved.

As usual, there were alot of topics for discussion from the commish meeting, but I thought this clip was the most noteworthy. This video is the SR's Jason Singer asking some tough questions about the inevitable insurance costs related to the Nuesse debacle which of course Craig Stahl refused to answer. Dan Kaman piped up though. He seems to be the only person who understand the gravity of the situation. Others might too, but they don't have the political guts to answer.

Take it away, Jason:

LOL! ! ! Jason had a Frueden slip. Around the 2:15 mark he gets a little tongue tied (or maybe not) with the words "should" and "city" and it comes out "Shitty."

I think Jason was really referencing this entire Nuesse debacle when he said that! !

Great job Jason, you said out loud what many at the Commission meeting were thinking and have been thinking for a LONG time.

Thanks 411 for posting this video. Not only was it a good laugh but it's good to see how incrediably incompatent our city leaders are.

More people should be furious over the stealth covert operations going on at city hall with the no comments and the many, many executive sessions. Sthal should just say at the beginning of the meeting that we are now going into executive session as they only discuss passing legislation and the rest will be done in executive session. Mr. Put-on-the-coffee- pot and Mr. Transparency guy versus no comment when asked any questions about the city's business. Stahl and Kline know what is going on but other commissioners claim that don't know the game plan. I thought the commissioners give direction and not the other way around. Stahl's term is up in November and I am not sure if the city will be able to survive his lack of leadership until then.

I just sent a letter to Stahl. I want to know why he cannot let the taxpayers know how much this will cost him. What happened to the coffee pot?

SPINNING SAID: This city commission is a joke. What a bunch of ill informed people who do not set good direction for the city nor model accountability to the city staffers.

No wonder the city is overspending, yes there is a spending problem if the tax revenue is falling short. Only a union hack like Warner could try to get away with trying to sell everyone on the need for more taxes.

But having a spending problem may be the least of our concerns because we have a leadership problem on the city commission and Kaman needs some support!!

I was at last night's meeting. I am disturbed by the "duplicity" :-) from stahl - he just doesn't really say anything. What is he trying to hide?

It is stressed at times that we understand they/administrators/etc. work hard, but it's the issues of transparency, of doing things in the proper order, of doing what's right for the citizens of Sandusky that we are concerned about.

Sometimes he (and several others at that front table) just don't have a clue.

I will be at the next meeting - with my coffee pot. Who will join me and bring their coffee pot as well?

Also, each and every one of us needs to demand accountability, especially in the Nuesse-gate fiasco. We need copies of what it's costing us (we are, after all, the commissioners bosses. We hired them - let's demand they do their jobs).

Part of their job is to communicate - one of their weakest areas.

Im impressed how this little blog gets more accurate information out than the Sandusky Register!! Well done.
